# Scan a grocery receipt and Saucepan remembers what you bought

After you shop, scan your receipt. Saucepan reads it on your device, lists the food it found, and adds it to your Pantry. It then tells you what to use first and which of your saved recipes you can cook. The receipt photo never leaves your phone.

Scan once after you shop. Saucepan keeps track of what you bought.

## How it works

1. Tap **Scan receipt** in Pantry, next to your grocery list.
2. Take a photo, or pick one from your library.
3. Check the list. Tap a row to remove it.
4. Tap **Done**.

Non-food lines, such as paper towels, are left out.

## What you get

- A kitchen that matches your last shop.
- A short list of what to use first.
- Recipes you can cook now, with what each one is missing.

Saucepan is honest about what it does not know. If it is not sure you still have something, it says "check the drawer" instead of guessing.

## Your privacy

Receipts are read on your device. If a line cannot be recognized, only that line's text may be sent to our AI service to expand the abbreviation. The image, the store and the totals never are. See [Privacy](/features/privacy).

## Questions

### Does the receipt photo leave my phone?
No. The text is read on your device. If a line is too short to recognize, such as ORG BBY SPNCH, only the text of that one line may be sent to our AI service to spell it out. The image, the store and the totals are never sent.

### What if it gets an item wrong?
Tap a row to remove it before you save. Nothing is added until you tap Done.

### Does it work with online orders?
Yes. A screenshot of a grocery order email reads the same way.

### Can it read spice jars or a pantry shelf?
Yes. It reads any printed labels in the photo.
