1. 1Step 1: Toast the coriander, cardamom, allspice, fenugreek, cloves, cinnamon stick, and peppercorns in a skillet over medium high heat until fragrant. Cool to room temperature and place in a spice grinder with the salt, turmeric, cayenne, paprika, and onion flakes and grind until fine.
2. 2Step 2: Sprinkle the beef with one tablespoon of the berbere spice. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil and butter to the pan. When the butter melts add the beef and brown on all sides.
3. 3Step 3: Stir the onion, jalapeno, grated ginger, and garlic into the pan and sauté, for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the onion softens. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato juice, and beef broth and simmer 20 to 30 minutes or until the beef is tender.
