Connect Saucepan to ChatGPT

On chatgpt.com, open Plugins, click +, choose Add custom MCP server, and enter https://getsaucepan.com/mcp with OAuth. Sign in to Saucepan and tap Allow. OpenAI offers custom servers on Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, on the web. On Pro, only the reading tools work. Saucepan itself is free.

ChatGPT’s menus change from time to time. If a name below is different, pick the closest match.

Who can add it

OpenAI’s help says custom MCP servers are for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, on chatgpt.com in a browser.

  • Business: only admins and owners can add one.
  • Enterprise and Edu: an admin has to give you permission first.
  • Pro: ChatGPT can use only the reading tools. It can search and read recipes, but not save them or add to your list.
  • Free, Go and Plus: OpenAI doesn’t say. If you don’t see Add custom MCP server, your plan doesn’t have it.

Saucepan isn’t in ChatGPT’s Plugin directory yet.

Steps

  1. On a computer, go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click +.
  2. Choose Add custom MCP server.
  3. Enter the name Saucepan. Under Connection, enter https://getsaucepan.com/mcp.
  4. Set authentication to OAuth.
  5. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.
  6. Install the plugin and connect it. A Saucepan page opens. Sign in with Apple, Google or an email code. No account yet? Make a free one on that page.
  7. Tap Allow.

In a chat, type @ and pick Saucepan.

Try asking

  • “Find me a 30-minute vegetarian dinner on Saucepan.”
  • “Save this to Saucepan: https://…” with a recipe link.
  • “Save that recipe you just wrote to Saucepan.”
  • “What can I make with chicken, rice and lemon?”
  • “What can I make from my pantry?”
  • “Add the ingredients for the lemon chicken to my groceries.”
  • “Put it on Thursday’s dinner.”
  • “What’s on my meal plan this week?”

Recipes can come back as photo cards in the chat, with Save and Add to groceries buttons.

What ChatGPT can and can’t do

Without an account, it can search Saucepan’s recipe collection: 5,700+ recipes, all with photos, tagged vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, quick and more. It can read any of them.

Signed in, it can also:

  • save a recipe from a link, one it wrote in the chat, or one from Saucepan’s recipe collection,
  • search your saved recipes and read your collections,
  • see your pantry and tell you what you can make,
  • add a recipe’s ingredients or single items to your grocery list, and read the list (your household’s list, if you share one),
  • read your meal plan and add a recipe or a note to a day.

It can’t delete anything, see your password, or post anything publicly.

Saving from a link works with most recipe websites and food blogs. For Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, share the post to Saucepan from your phone instead.

Disconnect

  • In the Saucepan app: Profile → ChatGPT & Claude.
  • On the web: getsaucepan.com/app → account menu → ChatGPT and Claude.

ChatGPT loses access at once. You can also disconnect in ChatGPT: Settings → Plugins → Saucepan, then Disconnect.

Questions

Which ChatGPT plans can add Saucepan?

OpenAI's help says custom MCP servers are for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces. On Business, only admins and owners can add one. On Enterprise and Edu, an admin has to give you permission. On Pro, ChatGPT can use only the reading tools, so it can search but not save. OpenAI doesn't say for Free, Go or Plus.

Is it free?

Saucepan is free, and you don't need Saucepan+. You need a ChatGPT plan that allows custom MCP servers.

Do I need the Saucepan app?

No. You can make a free Saucepan account on the sign-in page and start in ChatGPT. Everything you save is in the Saucepan app and at getsaucepan.com/app when you want to cook from it.

Can ChatGPT see other people's recipes?

No. It acts as you and sees only your account, plus what people share with you, such as a household grocery list. It can also search Saucepan's recipe collection, which is open to everyone.

Can I add it on my phone?

No. OpenAI says custom MCP servers work on chatgpt.com in a browser, not in the phone app.

Why don't I see Saucepan in the Plugin directory?

It isn't listed yet. Until it is, add it as a custom MCP server with the steps on this page, if your plan allows it.

How do I disconnect?

In the Saucepan app, open Profile, then ChatGPT & Claude. On the web, open getsaucepan.com/app, then the account menu, then ChatGPT and Claude. ChatGPT loses access at once.

Is my data used to train AI models?

Saucepan never receives your chat, only each request, such as search words or a link to save. Recipes you save this way are like anything else you keep in Saucepan: the Privacy Policy explains how they can be used to train AI. What ChatGPT does with your chats is set by OpenAI and your settings there.
