Use Saucepan in ChatGPT and Claude

Connect Saucepan to ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code and ask in plain words. It searches 5,700+ recipes with photos, saves recipes from links or the chat to your library, tells you what you can make, adds ingredients to your grocery list, and puts dinners on your meal plan. It is free.

Updated November 4, 2026

An assistant on its own makes up recipes and forgets them. Connected to Saucepan, it works with real recipes and your own kitchen.

Ask in plain words

  • “Find me a 30-minute vegetarian dinner on Saucepan.”
  • “Save this to Saucepan: https://…”
  • “Save that recipe you just wrote to Saucepan.”
  • “What can I make from my pantry?”
  • “Add the ingredients for the lemon chicken to my groceries.”
  • “Put it on Thursday’s dinner.”

In ChatGPT and Claude, recipes can show as photo cards with Save and Add to groceries buttons.

What it can do

Without an account: search and read Saucepan’s recipe collection. It has 5,700+ recipes with photos, tagged vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, quick and more.

Signed in:

  • Save a recipe from a link, from the chat, or from Saucepan’s recipe collection.
  • Search your saved recipes and read your collections.
  • See your pantry and tell you what you can make.
  • Add ingredients or single items to your grocery list, and read the list back. If you share a list with your household, items go on the shared list.
  • Read your meal plan and add a recipe or a note to a day.

It cannot delete anything, see your password, or post publicly.

Example

Dana is at her desk on Sunday. She opens Claude and types: “Find three quick vegetarian dinners on Saucepan.”

Claude shows three photo cards. Dana taps Save on two of them. Then she types: “Put them on Tuesday and Thursday dinner, and add what I need to my groceries.”

Claude adds both recipes to her plan and puts their ingredients on her grocery list. That evening she opens Saucepan on her iPhone. Both recipes are in her library, the two dinners are on her plan, and the list is ready for the store. She starts Cook Mode on Tuesday.

Amounts go on the list as the recipe is written. They are not scaled to your servings.

Compared with other apps

Checked November 4, 2026 from each app’s own site and App Store page.

  • Some other recipe apps also offer a ChatGPT or Claude connector: Deglaze, Honeydew, CookNest and Foodie.
  • Foodie says its connector shows recipe cards, a cook mode and timers inside the chat. That goes further than Saucepan, which shows recipe, list and plan cards but cooks in the app.
  • CookNest is listed in Claude’s directory and has an official ChatGPT plugin. Saucepan connects by address.
  • Deglaze lists its AI assistant features as part of its paid plan. Saucepan’s connector is free.
  • For Paprika, Mela, Crouton, Pestle, AnyList and Plan to Eat, we found no official ChatGPT or Claude connector on their sites or App Store pages.

Questions

Which ChatGPT plans work?

OpenAI's help says custom MCP servers are for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, on the web. On Pro, ChatGPT can use only the reading tools. OpenAI doesn't say for Free, Go or Plus. Claude works on every plan, including free.

Is it free?

Yes. The connector is free, and you do not need Saucepan+. You can search Saucepan's recipe collection without an account. Saving recipes, your grocery list, your pantry and your meal plan need a free Saucepan account, which you can make on the sign-in page.

Do I need the Saucepan app?

No. You can make a free account on the sign-in page and start in the chat. Your recipes are in the Saucepan app and at getsaucepan.com/app when you want to cook. Cook Mode, timers and voice need the app on your iPhone.

Can the assistant see other people's recipes?

No. It acts as you and sees only your account, plus what people share with you, such as a household grocery list. It can also search Saucepan's recipe collection, which is open to everyone.

Can it delete anything?

No. It can add recipes, add groceries and add meals to your plan. It cannot delete anything, see your password, or post publicly. To remove a recipe, a list item or a planned meal, open Saucepan and do it there.

How do I disconnect?

In the Saucepan app, open Profile, then ChatGPT & Claude. On the web, open getsaucepan.com/app, then the account menu, then ChatGPT and Claude. The assistant loses access at once. You can reconnect any time.

Can it save a recipe from Instagram or TikTok?

Not from the chat. Saving from a link works for most recipe websites and food blogs, but not social posts, videos, PDFs or paywalled pages. For Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, tap Share in that app and choose Saucepan on your iPhone.

Does the assistant see my whole chat?

No. Saucepan receives only what a request needs, such as search words, a link to save or a recipe to store. It does not receive the rest of your conversation. What ChatGPT or Claude does with your chats is set by those companies and your settings there.

Does it work with other assistants?

Yes. It works with assistants that let you add a remote MCP server with sign-in. Pages cover ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Mistral Vibe, Perplexity and other MCP apps. Menus differ, so look for custom connector, custom app or remote MCP server.
