Assumed on hand: salt, pepper, water and cooking oil. Optional items and garnishes are not counted.

How it works

Each recipe in the collection is reduced to the ingredients it needs. Your list is matched against them in your browser, and the recipes are sorted by how little is missing.

Recipes that need nothing more come first. Then the ones missing one item, then two or three. A recipe is only listed if it uses at least one thing you have, or two when you list three or more.

What it does not know

  • Amounts. It checks that you have flour, not that you have two cups.
  • Swaps. Buttermilk and milk are different items here. Saucepan suggests swaps inside recipes.
  • Freshness. A list cannot know the spinach is five days old. Your Pantry in Saucepan can.

Questions

Where do the recipes come from?

2,538 recipes from Saucepan's public collection. Each one opens on its own page with the full ingredients, the steps and a link to where it came from.

What does "missing" mean?

An ingredient the recipe needs that is not on your list. Salt, pepper, water and cooking oil are assumed, and so are lines marked optional or "for serving", so they are never counted.

How does it match ingredients?

By name and by kind. Eggs, egg and large eggs are the same. Chicken covers thighs, breasts and drumsticks. Spaghetti counts as pasta. It does not know swaps, so butter does not stand in for oil.

Is my list sent anywhere?

No. The matching runs in your browser. The page only downloads the recipe list, and your ingredients never leave it.

Why is my favorite recipe not here?

This page searches a fixed set of recipes. In Saucepan the same question runs on the recipes you save, from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, websites and cookbook pages.

How is Saucepan different?

It knows what you bought. Scan a grocery receipt and your Pantry fills itself, then What Can I Make? checks your own recipes against it and flags food to use soon. Free includes 3 checks a week.
