Save recipes from Pinterest pins

Open the pin in Pinterest, tap Share, and choose Saucepan. Most pins link to a recipe on a blog, so Saucepan follows the link and reads the recipe there, without the ads and the long story. It lands in your Inbox as a draft. Review it, then save it.

How it works

  1. Open the pin

    Find the recipe in Pinterest.

  2. Tap Share, then Saucepan

If Saucepan is not in the row, scroll to the end, tap More, and turn it on. You only do this once.

  3. Tap Open Saucepan

The recipe waits in your Inbox as a draft, with ingredients and steps.

  4. Review and save

Fix anything that looks off, then save it to your recipes. Cook Mode, timers and Groceries work from the saved copy.

When the blog will not open for Saucepan

Some sites block reading. Others are gone, because pins outlive blogs. If Saucepan cannot get the recipe, paste it in yourself.

  • Open the page in your browser, select the recipe text, copy it.
  • Paste it into Saucepan. It becomes a recipe the same way.
  • A pin that is only an image with the recipe written on it can be saved as a screenshot.

Then cook it.

A saved recipe opens in Cook Mode: one step at a time, in large type. Tap a time to start a timer. Timers ring like an alarm, even on silent.

Add what you need to Groceries, or add the recipe to your meal plan.

Questions

Does Saucepan save the pin or the recipe?

The recipe. Saucepan follows the pin to the page it links to and saves the ingredients and steps from there.

What if the pin is a graphic with the recipe printed on it?

Take a screenshot and save that. Saucepan reads the text from a screenshot.

The link is dead. What now?

Saucepan cannot read a page that is gone. Search for the recipe by name and share that page instead.

Do I need a Pinterest account?

Only if Pinterest asks for one to open the pin. Saucepan needs no account.
