Nut-free recipes, with peanuts and tree nuts flagged
Set peanuts and tree nuts as allergens once. Saucepan flags them in every recipe, finds the ones in sauces and spreads, and suggests a swap. Allergy flags are free.
Saucepan is a cooking app. A flag is a guide, not a guarantee, and it is not medical or religious advice. Always check labels, and ask your doctor, dietitian or religious authority when it matters.
What the nut-free filter does
Set it once, for everyone you cook for. Explore and your own recipes then show what fits, flag the ingredient that does not, and suggest a swap.
What Saucepan flags
- Peanuts, including peanut butter and peanut oil.
- Tree nuts: almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, hazelnuts, macadamias, Brazil nuts and pine nuts.
- Nut-based foods: marzipan, nut milks, nut flours, praline, hazelnut spread and many pestos.
- Peanuts and tree nuts are separate allergens in Saucepan. Choose either or both.
Where it cannot know
- Cross-contact and “may contain nuts” warnings on packaged food. A recipe cannot show those.
- Nuts hidden in a mix, a sauce or a baked good that the recipe does not break down.
- Which items count as nuts. Coconut and nutmeg are not tree nuts in most guidance, but definitions vary and some people avoid them.
- How severe your allergy is. For serious allergies, read every label and follow your allergist’s advice.
In short. This is a planning guide, not medical advice. A flag helps you plan. It does not replace reading the label on every packaged ingredient. Allergy flags are free.
Common nut-free swaps
What to use instead, and how to use it.
Instead of Peanut butter
Sunflower seed butter
Swap one for one. In baking, sunflower butter can turn green from a reaction with baking soda. It is harmless.
Instead of Almond flour
Sunflower seed flour or oat flour
Sunflower flour is closest in texture. Oat flour is drier, so add a little more liquid.
Instead of Pine nuts in pesto
Toasted sunflower or pumpkin seeds
Toast them first for a deeper taste.
Instead of Almond milk
Oat or soy milk
Oat is creamy. Soy is highest in protein.
Instead of Chopped nuts for crunch
Toasted seeds or crispy chickpeas
Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or toasted oats all add crunch.
Instead of Marzipan or nut paste
A simple sugar paste with a little vanilla
Check that any almond flavouring is nut-free.

Questions

Is coconut a tree nut?
In most current guidance it is not, but some people with nut allergies avoid it. Ask your allergist.
Does it catch “may contain nuts”?
No. Saucepan reads ingredients, not packaging warnings. Always check labels on packaged food.
